Cloth fascinates me. I respond to its tactility, its drape, its lustre, the way its surface can be manipulated, stitched upon, painted, printed, torn, mended and moulded. I am challenged by its versatility; its ability to fall luxuriously off a shoulder, to hang stiffly against a wall or to transform from two dimensions into three dimensions. It is its intimate relationship to the body, its ubiquity in our lives, its associations with the home, its links to the past and its relevance to the future that continues to inspire me. And it provides me a medium in which I can explore the transience of the human condition. It is indispensable to and intrinsically woven into the very fabric of my life.
